CHARACTER INFO
• Character Name: Thomas Zane/Thomas Seine, the poet/the diver/the film auteur
• Character Age: looks to be early to mid 40s, closer to 96
• Character Canon: Alan Wake / Remedy Connected Universe
• Canon Point: just before Alan "shooting" Zane, and the reveal that he's alive
• Character History: here. As a note the RCU wiki page is very similar to Silent Hill - fans love to posit theories as fact on the wiki. I will obviously only be going by what canon actually supports!
• Character Personality:
— creative/passionate: For all of the delicate mystery surrounding Zane there is one universal truth: he is a creative genius. He's clever enough to write Alan Wake into existence and driven enough to ensure a piece of himself, however little it is, lives on in in the form of art. All of his "iterations" have been related to this: a poet writing his lost love back from the dead, a diver searching for his treasure as an actor, or his current version, the filmmaker himself, all revolve around art that he creates. Without art and the passion to do it, Tom would simply not be alive. He's saved himself through it time and time again and uses it to survive in the Dark Place -- he's used his passion for creativity so often he's been there for almost a decade, and it's heavily implied he's the only one to do it. Tom is truly an auteur in every sense.
— mentor: Tom is very aware he is not a main character on a meta level, and seems to prefer it that way: instead he works as a guide and mentor to Alan, regardless of his own personal motivations. He leads and instructs people and it comes naturally to him. Even before before the Dark Place, he owned an artist commune in Bright Falls in an attempt to mold and guide other artists to reach a higher plane if creativity, however cult like his behaviour was. Zane is happiest when he's leading someone else to their desired goal, whether they realize it's what they desire at the time or not. Intuitive and empathetic, Zane is always extremely patient as he does this, be it helping Alan rescue Alice in Alan Wake 1 or helping Alan rescue himself in Alan Wake 2. If his own desires happen to align with whomever he's decided to take under his wing, then it's a double win.
— charming: Despite being a very enigmatic and mysterious figure, Tom is actually quite charming, even if the layers of who he really is is a mystery. He looks like the poster child for washed up rockers, says the weirdest shit imaginable, and flirts with anything that moves, sure, but most of the people that meet him are enamored on some way shape or form. This is because, despite the walking red flags, Tom is a very earnest and honest individual. He says exactly what he means and it lends him to be strangely endearing once you're able to pick it out through all of the poetry and crazy.
— mad: Much of Zane is unknown and shrouded in mystery, as repeatedly stated, but one thing is absolutely obvious: spending so long in the Dark Place has caused him to completely lose what little mind he had left. Tom has endured a twisted, personal nightmare for 50 some years and has only had the power of art to keep things at bay. He constantly answers things in nonanswers or recites his own poetry as a clear and concise explanation, he seems completely unconcerned with the monsters and dangers that happen around him and his hotel room, bumping into people like Tim with a negroni and asking about a costume party instead of offering to help the poor man in any way from the horrors of being in another dimension. This madness - and his psyche being warped by exposure to the Dark Prescence - happens as early as when his wife came back Wrong from Cauldron Lake, when his solution was to tie her up in a chair and carve out her heart before drowning them both together.
— unpredictable: He's a loose canon in every sense. This goes hand in hand with his madness - the basic fact of the matter is that Tom is extremely hard to pin down. A combination of far too many mind altering substances both in the Dark Place and on the surface, his genius to the point if insanity, and being forced to adapt to being trapped in the Dark Place has positively fried him. Zane operates on his own logic: he's consistently on the run from the FBC and will absolutely just turn and bolt at the mere sight of a cop, and then turn around and flirt with the department head. He'll go from happy and laid back to bursts of rage at the drop of a hat depending on seemingly arbitrary rules. It's important to note that while he's unpredictable to other people, it's not just random explosions of temper or sadness - Zane has a very clear and consistent reason for everything he does. It's just that it's only clear and consistent to him. While it's entirely possible someone can understand him on this sort of level, it's quite difficult.
— manipulative: Earlier it has been stated that Tom is earnest and honest with his words. This is true -- when it comes to his emotions. Like everything else about him, things get complicated pretty quickly. Zane is an expert at moving pieces around like a chessmaster, saying or guiding someone or something to do exactly what he wants. He uses things and people without a second thought to further whatever agenda he needs, and so far has been three for three: he's lied and ommited the truth around Alan's very existence in Alan Wake 1 to help him save Alice, he's completely secretive about Mr. Scratch beyond a few sentences here and there respite the fact that he knows exactly who he is because he knows Alan has to face him, and in Alan Wake 2 he is fully aware that Alan is looping himself into the same situation again and again and says nothing outright about it. He works with Scratch and purposefully double crosses Alan - to the point of Alan killing him - because he knows it's the last piece of the puzzle to get the other where he needs to go. It's strongly hinted in the Final Draft that he is using Dr. Casper Darling the exact same way to finally escape the hell he's been trapped in. Do not trust this man. He will probably better you as a person but do not trust this man.
• Character Skills:
As Zane has a love of outdoors and nature, even going so far as to live in a cabin for most of his time in Washington, so he actually has some useful skillsets!
• basic outdoors survivalism (fire building, shelter, etc)
• foraging (mushrooms are his specialty for obvious drug related reasons)
• fishing (including ice)
• cold weather preparation (a Finnish immigrant, he's used to the snow!)
•swimming/diver (regardless of whether or not it's a role from his films or himself, as canon and Tom himself is contradictory, the fact that he knows how to dive has always been consistent)
• Character Inventory:
— ITEM ONE: his hand held video camera from the 70s - maybe will only work in the aurora?
— ITEM TWO: a painting of a spiral
— ITEM THREE: his diving suit - while Tom "drowned" in 1970s, this specific suit is form a year or two after. This is because James Bond had it in a movie and the folks at Remedy thought it was cool - Tom's suit itself without the specs is here for reference.
• Important Notes: I have not mentioned the fact that he can use art to write, rewrite, and edit reality - I am assuming all of that is completely and utterly nerf'd to the ground.
• Writing Samples: Players must provide TWO prose writing samples. These both must be log threads. Due to the fact there is no network in this game, 'network' or 'texting'-style threads will not be accepted.

A note on shipping: Zane is a naturally flirty person who is not above using alcohol or drugs to have a good time, and he doesn't have many limits given the state of him. Zane and Darling are a personal favourite, but I'm open to it all! Cross-canon, canon, AU, everything is wide open and easily justifiable.
